Ulysses was one of the great pleasant surprises of my life. I read "Finnegan's Wake" in high school, convinced there was some kind of mystical meaning to it, but in fact having read the whole thing I feel confident in saying it's just a big put-on.
Then I got assigned to read Ulysses in college and someone told me it was written in gibberish. So I though, jesus, here we go again. But when I actually went to read it, compared to Finnegan's Wake it's quite straightforward and clear.
Thanks for reminding me of the date; I shall explain to Sarah that I am honor bound as a Joyce fan to drink a pint at the pub and be tempted by libidinous barmaids before the day is out.

If you think about it, you aren't just honor bound to be tempted by libidinous barmaids -- you're honor bound to try to get a look at their panties.
